Argentine Patagonia, centered on the legendary peaks of the Fitz Roy massif, offers some of the most dramatic mountain photography opportunities on Earth. The granite spires of Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, rising from the Patagonian steppe in vertical walls of over 3,000 meters, create scenes of almost impossible drama.
Mount Fitz Roy, known to the local Tehuelche people as Chaltén ("smoking mountain" for the clouds that perpetually wreath its summit), is the centerpiece of this collection. This jagged granite peak, with its characteristic array of satellite spires, has been called the most beautiful mountain in the world. Capturing it in clear conditions is a rare privilege - the peak is famously hidden by clouds for much of the year.
The approach to Fitz Roy from El Chaltén passes through ancient lenga forests and along the shores of pristine glacial lakes. Laguna de los Tres, at the base of the peak, offers the classic viewpoint, but this collection also explores less-visited locations that provide fresh perspectives on this iconic mountain.
Cerro Torre, perhaps the most technically difficult peak in the world to climb, features its own distinctive beauty. Its summit mushroom of rime ice and the needle-sharp profile of the tower itself create unmistakable silhouettes against Patagonian skies.
The Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few advancing glaciers left on Earth, provides a different kind of Patagonian spectacle. The 60-meter face of this massive ice field constantly calves enormous icebergs into Lago Argentino, creating scenes of raw geological power.
Throughout this region, the interplay of light and weather creates endless photographic drama. The famous Patagonian winds that make climbing here so challenging also create incredible cloud formations, from lenticular "flying saucer" clouds to the dramatic banner clouds that stream from the peaks.
Each print in this collection is produced on museum-quality materials with archival longevity, bringing the wild spirit of Argentina's greatest peaks into your home or office.
