Abruzzo, my home region in central Italy, remains one of Europe's best-kept secrets. This wild, mountainous territory - home to wolves, bears, and chamois - offers landscapes of dramatic beauty that rival any in the Alps, yet remains largely undiscovered by the international photography community. This collection represents years of exploration in these beloved mountains.
Gran Sasso d'Italia, the highest peak in the Apennines, dominates the Abruzzo landscape. The Corno Grande summit, often snow-capped even in summer, rises dramatically above the high plateau of Campo Imperatore - a vast grassland sometimes called "Italy's Tibet" for its stark, high-altitude beauty.
Campo Imperatore itself provides extraordinary photographic opportunities. The vast open spaces, grazed by sheep and horses as they have been for millennia, create scenes of pastoral beauty set against dramatic mountain backdrops. The changing seasons bring constantly shifting moods - from the bright flowers of spring to the golden grasses of autumn.
The Maiella National Park, Abruzzo's other great wilderness area, offers different character. Dense beech forests give way to alpine meadows and dramatic rocky peaks. The wildlife here - wolves, Marsican brown bears, and Apennine chamois - add a wildness that distinguishes Abruzzo from more developed mountain regions.
The medieval hilltop villages of Abruzzo provide perfect counterpoints to the natural landscapes. Santo Stefano di Sessanio, Rocca Calascio with its ruined fortress, and dozens of smaller settlements offer images that blend human history with natural beauty.
Having grown up in this region, I bring an intimate knowledge to this collection that cannot be replicated by visiting photographers. Every photograph represents not just a beautiful scene, but a deep personal connection to this remarkable landscape.
All prints are produced on museum-quality archival materials, preserving the character of my home region for collectors worldwide.
